November

Workshop – What Goes in the First Page? with Nancy Martin

When: Saturday, November 11, 12:00pm to 3:00pm
Where: Oakmont Carnegie Library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont, PA 15139
Cost: Free

You know it when you read it, but how do you write it? The first page is the most important page of your manuscript, and it’s the hardest to write. Join longtime-published author Nancy Martin (with over fifty successful first pages under her belt) to discuss and practice the most vital elements of a compelling story’s first few engaging words. How do you hook your crit partner, your agent, your editor and your reader? Is it possible to introduce an engaging character, kick off an exciting story, demonstrate your artistic writing skills, hint at a theme, establish a setting…and above all entertain? All in fewer than 200 words? Bring your three favorite opening lines from books you love, and be prepared to write!

Nancy Martin is the author of over fifty popular fiction novels in the suspense, mystery, romance and historical genres. She is a founding member of Pennwriters and has served on the national board of Sisters in Crime. Try her Blackbird Sisters Mysteries, published by Penguin, starting with the award-winning How To Murder a Millionaire. Her most recent book is Miss Ruffles Inherits Everything, published by Minotaur.
This event is free, but we are asking for registration so we have an accurate head-count. Please click here to access the registration via Eventbrite.
