Writing Workshop with Susan Meier

When: September 9, 10:00am – 4:00pm
Where: Carnegie Library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont, PA, 15139
Cost: $35, plus fee.

Join Susan Meier, prolific author of more than fifty novels for Harlequin and Silhouette written over the course of her successful 34-year career, as she leads an all day workshop event hosted by the Pittsburgh chapter of Sisters in Crime.

Susan will be leading two workshops with a self-directed lunch break. The first workshop, KNOW YOUR STORY (10:00-Noon) will cover core story ideas like:

  • Strengthening your core story idea
  • Ramping up your back cover blurb
  • Honing in on character growth and elevating internal conflict; and
  • Hooking your readers with effective pacing strategies.

CAN THIS MANUSCRIPT BE SAVED (1:30 – 3:30) is workshop number two. In it, you will:

  • ID key story, scenes, and words as critical entry points; and
  • Develop effective tools including using a storyboard to keep your story on track.

During the lunch break interested attendees can practice what they’ve learned by participating in a PERFECTING YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH open mic session.

Snacks and beverages will be available during the workshop, and they are included in the registration cost. Panera and the Oakmont Deli are nearby as options for the self-directed lunch.

The event also includes a Writers Raffle basket, and a free book exchange. De-clutter your bookshelf now and bring those books to the exchange table. Any books not chosen will be donated to the Carnegie Library.

The workshop fee is $35 plus a $2.92 registration fee. Your fee helps Sisters in Crime continue to present dynamic workshops and relevant events to authors, readers, and the community.
